January 8th, 2010

I know I’ve been gone for absolutely ages but after my craziest holiday season yet which included photographing 30 families in 30 days (am I crazy or what?), after a nice little vacay, I am back and back with some New Years resolutions.

1. To embrace social media & contribute to my various blogs more often. When I first started blogging back in 2006, I blogged about everything in my life. I blogged so much that I had nothing interesting to say in person because everyone I knew had already read about my life. Not that I want to be uninteresting in person, but it’s all been photos & business lately and I’m resolving to blog about regular life as well.

2. I have given up any and all meat that is not from a humane farm. I have not become a vegetarian. I will still eat meat & fish etc. This basically just means that I am only allowed to eat meat that I purchase myself from Whole Foods. It’s not that I don’t love meat…believe me, I do. But I’ve recently been having a personal crisis over animal cruelty and have decided that this is one small thing that I can do to promote humane treatment of farm animals while treating my body a little better too.

3. Oh yeah, and get in shape…but isn’t that every year? But this time I mean it.  :)

I’m also happy to announce that we just launched a brand new blogsite for the DC studio that I have with my mom & sister, www.studiodiana.com. Go have a look when you have a free moment, I think it’s just beautiful and I can’t stop staring it. This is yet another blogsite by the amazing amazing folks at Identity Kitchen.

They have been kind enough to offer a 10% discount on new branding/ blogsite projects between now and January 31st. Mention Studio Diana to redeem your discount. Okay, that’s all for now but I have tons of images to blog so I will be back soon.

Sorry I haven’t been blogging much lately. All of you photographers out there know that this is a crazy time of year getting ready for the holiday season. I just got back from the Pictage PartnerCon in New Orleans last night which was an incredibly fun, educational and enlightening time. During the 8 days leading up to it, I photographed 17 families. I know, that sounds psychotic but I’m doing my best to take care of all of the wonderful families who trust me to photograph their families year after year. Most of them want a great image or two to put on their holiday cards and this year I have some new adorable templates from Identity Kitchen for them to choose from. Check ‘em out:

The deadline to order holiday cards is December 1st so if you’re a wedding or portrait client, don’t forget to get in touch soon…thank you!

My mother is in town visiting this week so after dragging her to a couple of wild (actually one rather sedate, one wild) Hollywood parties last night, we spent the afternoon prepping for The Modern Portrait workshop which we teach together. It’s going to be held at the new loft studio I just got with my good friend Ellen Petty from Identity Kitchen. I’ll post some pictures of the space soon as it starts to come together.

As promised though, here is the next engagement session on the list. Carin and Perry are a wonderful couple who found me despite the lack of any actual wedding marketing efforts out here in LA. But I was so glad that they found me because we are very much on the same page and their wedding is to take place at a venue that I have been eyeing for a couple of years now, Marvimon.

I met them at Point Dume in Malibu and then we headed down to Santa Monica for a few twilight portraits in front of the pier. Hope you enjoy!
