I had such a blast this week partnering up with my amazing husband Gary to pull together a photo shoot for my dear sister-in-law Kay Hanley and her awesome musical partner-in-crime, Linus of Hollywood. Kay and Linus have a new band together called We Are Palmdale…they are super awesome and with their upcoming release of “Get Wasted” on iTunes, they needed some press photos as well as images for a PDF book that will be a download along with the album. Very cool, right? So Gary had the idea for the two of them to scribble all of the liner notes and credits and stuff all over seamless paper and we would just shoot the whole process. Of course Kay and Linus couldn’t resist the urge to draw dirty little pictures and other nonsense as well which just made it that much more interesting and fun. :) Here are a few faves from our session.

I had to grab a pretty pic of Kay

Sometimes I like to blog about things other than photography just because living in LA, some experiences are just too ridiculous not to write about. So the other night Gary and I met our friends Lisa & Roey at the Nokia Theater downtown to see our good friend Juan Patino who was on tour with the legendary Hall & Oates.
We had great seats right smack in the middle amongst lots of “super fans”. But none of the crazy dancing ladies could even hold a candle to the guys sitting across the aisle from us in full head-to-toe 80’s style Hall & Oates garb. And they seemed so serious too. People came from all over the theater to take pictures with them. Of course we had to as well. Leave it to a pro photographer to have only iPhone & Blackberry pictures of her own life but maybe one of these days I’ll pick up a new point-and-shoot that actually has a flash on it for this sort of occasion.

After the concert was over we went backstage to find Juan and in the process ended up meeting John Oates who is a super nice guy and was kindly mingling with all of us common folk. :) At that point Juan escorted us to the back-back-backstage dungeons where we were introduced to Daryl Hall. Now my husband is a huge fan so we had to get our picture taken with him and I must admit it was a little more exciting than meeting the faux Hall & Oates.

But after seeing those guys we’re now considering dressing as H&O for Halloween…that may even top our Sarah Silverman/ Jimmy Kimmel outfits from 2 years ago…

A few months ago my friend & neighbor Greg Behrendt approached me about doing a photo shoot with his band, The Reigning Monarchs, a super cool (all instrumental) surf-rock band. Well considering that my own brother Michael heads up the band with Greg and I totally love their music, how could I say no? So we scheduled it and then it was off to find the perfect location. Once Greg showed me this amazing vintage sofa he found on the side of the road, that settled it…we just had to shoot at the legendary Vogue Theater on Hollywood Boulevard. It just seemed like the perfect combination of tattered dilapidation with a richness of color and lingering air of old hollywood sophistication. And as luck would have it, Gary’s good friend Abdi has held the lease on the place for the past couple of years with plans to eventually turn it into a supper club.
The good news for you is that their album is now available for digital download at www.thereigningmonarchs.com. You even get to name your own price. So head on over and grab some songs…

The shoot was quick and the guys did great but I really couldn’t have pulled it off without a tremendous amount of help from my wonderful husband Gary or my fabulous new assistant Franny.
